COVID causes large scale drop in pollution

 Due to COVID 19 the amount of has massively dropped in many areas of the world. According to the article the amount of nitrogen dioxide levels in china have dropped by up to 30%. In Italy the nitrogen dioxide level have fallen by 40%. These are huge drops in pollution due to factories closing and less cars traveling everyday. Professor of air pollution, Paul Monks, even called it "the largest-scaled experiment ever seen" as the results will let scientists learn a lot from the air pollution pattern due to many countries quarantining. This is a huge step for the worlds environment as this will show so many people that we can make a difference to stop climate change and help the plant like we have done so now. At least the pandemic has brought something good for the world.

    This is interesting because we would not have been able to see these results without Covid-19. Big businesses with high emissions would not agree to this without having to. It was a positive light from a pandemic that had so many negatives.

    Most big news that we have seen with Covid-19 have been about the public health, etc. But as humans aren't at our best, and we are trying to survive in this global pandemic, our planet and environment is getting a chance to heal itself. We are focused on our health right now and staying inside. This is giving our environment a break from the harm we cause, and preventing us from doing more damage at the moment. I think it's ironic that as humans everywhere are struggling, the planet is gaining, and usually its vise versa.

    It is crazy to see how positively this world wide pandemic has impacted the amount of pollution in our atmosphere. This gives us as humans a realization of how much we contributed to polluting our earth. With us being in quarantine for months it gave time for pollution to clear up without constant harm being done.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
