Alaska earthquake

Earthquakes are usually deadly and devastating, but Alaska's was not. The earthquake was really strong but it had minor damage. Before there was a lot of damage that came along with earthquakes and people had to try and recover and repair buildings but now they made better building codes and it helped lower the damage. I think that it is great that they found a way to save homes, buildings, and people.

    This is interesting to read. It's surprising that Alaska used the damage from the last earthquake as a reason to make homes and buildings more sustainable to them. I wonder why other places that get hit by earthquakes haven't tried this.

    I love the fact that the world is taking action in order to help preserve the future. With these methods of decreasing the damage caused by natural disasters, the world will be better protected in the future. This is important in today's world because natural disasters have been common.

    It is very good that we started to change the way we build our buildings because if there is a natural disaster, it will stay standing and we would not have to use use so much money to reconstruct everything in its path.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
