Whale Wars in Japan

Japan has announced it will continue its commercial whaling industry in July. Japan said it will withdraw from the IWC, the International Whaling Commission. The IWC was formed in 1986 after some stocks of species were getting dangerously low. Japan says it will leave because eating whale has been part of its culture for centuries. I feel like countries should be able to exclude themselves from certain restrictions due to past traditions, if they don't go overboard.

  1. And if the past traditions are harmful or not good for EVERYONE on the planet I say NOPE!

  2. I think that if Japan wants to continue its commercial whaling industry for cultural reasons, they should be allowed to do so since that is the way it has always been for them. Even though some of us may not agree, it is their lifestyle and it is what the Japanese know. However, as with hunting all other animals, they should be mindful of the whale population to keep their numbers from getting so low again to protect the whales.

  3. The Japanese should be able to continue to do this if it has always been a popular industry for them. People shouldn't get that upset about it because it is like the same thing as hunters here in the United States.

  4. I think that places should be able to do what they want and if people don't live there then they shouldn't have an opinion because it isn't their issue.

  5. If the whale population is extremely low them they should restrict the amount of that they kill. If you limit the killing of whales then the population will slowly go up and you will be able to hunt them again.

  6. I think they should restrict the amount of whales they kill per day for they do not go instinct in that area.
