New steps are being made to solar energy, so that solar fields can now not only produce energy, but now purify water straight from the sea. This could be a huge step in the right direction to meet the water needs of the world, while also allowing for useful energy to be made. It works by not only making energy from the sunlight, but also adsorbs some of the heat and stores it to be able to purify water. Once the water evaporates it leaves the salt behind and can be collected as drinking water. This system could potentially be a big part of our energy consumption, being that it also is helping the water problem.

    The concept is super interesting and would be a very good resource for third world countries to get fresh water. How exactly is the sea water purified? What is the process?

    This would be life changing for many countries and small towns that live by the ocean, but is there a system to get the water to small town that doesn't live near a ocean to get drinkable water?

    This idea of using solar power to provide water for poorer countries sounds great, but one factor is being left out. Who is going to pay for all of this? The water problem throughout parts of the world needs to fixed, but this method may be too costly to be considered for everyone.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
