What if the Government Goes Green?

 The government spends more than $500 billion dollars on their operations each year. This makes them a big consumer. If the government made ecofriendly decisions on the goods and services they chose, they would be able to make a big difference completely on their own. If the government spends money on sustainable options, they can improve and create more for the public. The government is planning on purchasing electric vehicles for their federal transportation. While this isn't that many vehicles, it funds the small, private businesses that make these cars. It could also be beneficial to have their buildings run on clean energy.

I think it is a good idea for the government to go clean. They can make a big impact because of the amount of resources they use. Also, in areas where they might not make a big impact, they are still setting an important example. The people are supposed to look up to the government, so it could encourage them to consider clean options as well. If the government is going to spend that much money, it is important that they make sure their purchases help further society and no ruin its future.

    I totally agree with this statement. If we are constantly spending so much to be cleaner and go green, then why not put the money to use. Showing people the difference that going green could make will encourage people to follow. People look up to their leaders, and if one does something, more will continue to follow.

    If the government were to go green and push more environmentally friendly energy sources, I think more people would participate in the movement. It might also make the resource needed for green energy, like solar panels or turbines, easier to access.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
