Is Your Microwave Nuking the Environment?

Researchers at Manchester University in England have recently have had some discoveries about microwaves. Microwaves themselves do not emit CO2, but the required process of building the microwave does require a massive amount of energy that is equal to the tailpipe emissions of 6.8 million cars. I think that this article is very interesting because it is a common misconception that microwaves emit harmful chemicals, but to see that it is actually the energy that builds it is eye opening. Although there are no studies done in the US yet, I look forward to seeing how closely the US and England relate to each other.

  3. I am also interested in how the US an England's studies relate or differ, Hanna. Such studies can produce clear depictions of bias or misleading truths. Conservative parties are in power in both the US and England, but Theresa May, the UK Prime Minister, has provided statements supporting the idea of climate change and has also taken initiatives to improve poorer communities and nations regarding the effect climate change has had on them. Dissimilarly, President Trump has denounced global warming and is even planning to defund the EPA in the new tax reform. Further than this, relations between Britain and the U.S. regarding simple interactions have not been the most cordial. I am compelled to see what information prevails from each respective nation.

  4. So does this mean that standing in front of a microwave cant cause cancer? it is interesting, though, that just making the microwaves causes more trouble to the environment than using the microwave.
