As temperatures rise, so do insects’ appetites for corn, rice and wheat

Insects eat through 8 percent of corn and about 14 percent of rice. When it's warm, insects' metabolisms speed up super fast and it results in the insects eating more. The temperatures also effect parasites that graze among corn. The United States is one of the most effected countries in the world. Whereas the crops won't be completely gone, a big portion of them will be.

  1. This article is interesting, as I never realized that insects eat corn and rice. The fact that the United States is losing crops because of insects is sad; first it is lantern flies and the tree of heaven. Now it's insects and corn, rice, and wheat.

  3. This is interesting but hard to stop. This is going to happen. Insects are living organisms a well and not much can be done. You can't use bug spray or chemicals, it then ruins the crops. It's a tough and hard situation to deal with. You can't control what the temperate is going to be everyday, and when the summer months come it's feasting time.
