"Geoscientists develop technology to improve forecasting of earthquakes, tsunamis"

Geoscientists at the University of South Florida have developed a high tech buoy that recognizes changes in the seafloor that could potentially lead to earthquakes and tsunamis. The goal is for the buoy to be able to detect changes in the stress and strain of the Earth's outermost layer, the crust. Having this knowledge of small changes in the seafloor and stress or strain on the Earth's crust can lead to sooner evacuations from tsunamis and earthquakes and could prevent more casualties from these events. I believe this invention is very important as gaining more information on natural disasters can help save the lives of thousands and can allow for precautions to be taken before tragedy strikes.

    I found this article very informative because this technology can help predict earthquakes and tsunamis by using the changes in seafloor and stress on the strain of the Earth's crust to help get people get evacuated in time so they are not affected by the natural disaster. This technology should be used more worldwide to save thousands of people and prevent causalities from occurring. Also, this technology is a good idea to help predict when natural disasters will occur and to take precautions before the tragedy strikes.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
