The Coronavirus Outbreak

A week before January 30, 2020, Wuhan, China went under official lock down. The day of January 30, many unbelievable events happened. Two doctors in Wuhan were assaulted, one was threatened and his protective gown was torn off. Although medical supplies are being delivered in bulk from around the world, they are still running low in China.

In Russia, they prepared for a partial closure of the 2,600 mile border with China. The Prime Minister ordered for 16 out of 25 of the crossing points to be closed. The Foreign Ministry urged Russians to postpone travel to China. They also suspended electronic visas for Chinese citizens. So far, there has been no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Russia.

In the United States, American Airlines pilots' union were planning to sue in attempt to stop all services between the United States and China. Starting February 9, all flights from Los Angeles to Beijing and Shanghai will be suspended. The United Airlines announced that there would be flight cancellations of hundreds of flights until the end of March. In Chicago, the first case of the Coronavirus was found. A woman had returned home to her husband from Wuhan, China. They both had started to show symptoms, the wife before the husband, and were both hospitalized and isolated. Officials have said that the public is at low risk for the spread of the virus. Thursday night, the State Department of the United States advised all Americans to not travel to China. They also set a new advisory at level 4, or Red, which is the highest caution.

In Italy, a cruise ship had been docked for more than 12 hours over concerns that a passenger had the virus, but it was only a false alarm. The Prime Minister of Italy blocked all flights to and from China.

Honestly, I am at a loss of words over this. At least proper precautions are being taken to keep the virus from spreading. Otherwise, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. It's just kind of scary to think about it spreading because it is a life-threatening virus.

Oh no

  1. It is definitely alarming that none of our current technology or medicine can cure this disease and stop it from spreading. I think the best course of action would be to completely stop travel to infected areas in order to stop it from spreading to other parts of the world.

  2. I agree with you that the correct precautions are being taken. If travel wouldn't have been slowed down then many more places could have gotten infected with the virus. This virus has been around for many years and just now it had broke out. This virus is almost identical to the flu and has the same symptoms. Since it's flu season I believe the virus came back and is more deadly then ever before.

  3. I agree that precautions need to be taken to try and slow down the spread of Corona. It's a little difficult to contain this virus or prevent it from spreading. President Trump believes we have this all under control since we have shut down airports and have done other measures to stop the virus. But, there are many other places in the world that are getting confirmed cases of Corona that the United States haven't shut down flights too. There was a case in Northern California that the person who is infected had not been to a place with any confirmed cases.

  4. I think that the virus is being portrayed as scarier than what it actually is. More people die from the flu every year, but it's a common thing that we aren't as afraid of. I think it's good that people are trying to prevent the spread of the virus, but there's no way to stop it.
