Scientist have started to recently state that Glitter is harmful to the environment. Since, glitters are a form of micro plastics they can release chemicals in the ocean and be consumed by marine animals. In the upcoming year, the UK will try implementing a law on micro beads, which are a type of micro-plastic. In my opinion, this could help limit the amount of micro-plastics that could get into oceans and waterways. Another thing, this author seems the be very biased towards glitter by calling it a "super-villain" and 'Charming, but insidious".

    I would have never guessed something so small like glitter would be a big harm to the environment. Interesting to see how they plan to fix this issue.

    I never thought that glitter would be so harmful to the environment and hurt it that much. I wonder who found it and I would love to see how they are going to fix it.

    I believe it! Glitter is a monster! Ever get glitter in your eye? It hurts! So I can see why it is also harmful on the environment.

    Glitter is not the first thing I would think to harm an environment, but like the previous comment, I can believe it. Glitter also gets EVERYWHERE!

    I can't say I'm surprised since its a type of plastic, however I never would have thought that there could be so much glitter in the ocean that it could cause problems. Hopefully something is done to prevent this from further damage.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
