What can save the rainforest? Your used cell phone

This Ted talk discusses illegal logging, how it negatively impacts Earth, and ways in which we can limit and stop this practice. The speaker's main focus is on using cell phones to stop illegal logging. He says that they can be used to pick up the sounds of chainsaws in the rain forest and then the phone can contact authorities in the area to stop the logging. I personally think that this is a very inventive and interesting idea if it is used effectively and could potentially be very beneficial in the cause to stop illegal logging.

  1. This is such a good and easy way that miltiple people could get involved in helping to save the rainforst. Many of us have phones that are capable of doing this but they arent put to good use. Knowing that people are using their phones to track down deforestation of the rainforest might influence people not to do it anymore considering they could be easily caught. Im thinking an eco-action trip to the rainforest soon?

  2. I think that this is such an effective and simple way to make a huge impact on an environment. If people are scared of being turned into the authorities, I think that it would lessen the illegal deforestation activity, thus helping not only the trees, but the whole habitat!
