Coronavirus in the United States
Coronavirus is a highly contagious infectious disease that we do not yet have a cure for. Symptoms include a respiratory illness, flu, cough, fever, and in most severe cases difficulty breathing. Many people believe that it only effects the old and weak, however there have been reported cases and deaths of perfectly healthy people. To stop the spread of the virus, many states are under a stay at home order from the president and local legislatures. It involves only leaving the house when absolutely necessary. In the United States there is currently more cases (164,516) than Italy, China, and Spain. The US has experienced 3,174 deaths. The US has the most reported cases in the entire world. Whether that is due to the specific countries not actually reporting cases confirmed or not, we will probably never know. In Pennsylvania, there are currently 3,419 people diagnosed and there has been 41 deaths. More specifically, in Berks County, there have been 82 confirmed cases but no confirmed deaths.
Overall this is an extremely scary epidemic that people need to take more seriously in order to truly get it to subside and get our normal lives back. However, I feel that we will not be back to normal for a very long time and will just have to find ways to adjust to this new way of living and stay clean and safe from anyone who is sick.
I agree with you that this is scary and not enough people are taking this as seriously as they should be. People continue to go out and are hanging out with other individuals when you should be staying at home as much as possible and you should not be getting together with friends. The people that are not social distancing are making the situation worse for everybody else. I am not hopeful that this will be over soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to control a pandemic like this when people do not want to take it seriously. It is a big adjustment for many to stay home and not go out whenever they feel however that is the new 'normal.' This pandemic does have a bad timing with summer coming up because it will just make everyone want to go outside and spend time with their friends even more.
ReplyDeleteI went to a local park yesterday for a walk (because I've already gained weight). There were so many people there fishing in small groups (maybe families or couples?), but they were so close to each other and chatting and even sharing equipment. I kept walking the track, and on the other side of the park was a full basketball game. You are correct--many people are NOT taking this seriously. And I live in Montgomery County the hardest hit county next to Philadelphia. Not sure how to make people do it outside of Martial Law... and that is even more scary than a stay-at-home order.
ReplyDeleteI agree that more people need to take it more seriously, specifically teenagers and young adults. Many adults continue to just let their kids go out and play with neighborhood kids which is exactly how the virus is going to spread. I live in town and I constantly see tons of kids outside playing together than going into their homes with their parents and siblings. It got to the point where the governor had to close down parks and remove the baskets off of the basketball court. There are plenty of other things people could be doing like walking or riding a bike with the people in your own house, to get them outside and out of the house without being around other people.
