Climate change: Australian summers 'twice as long as winters'
The article starts off by talking about how over the past 20 years, the Australian Institute found the summers across the country had become about a month longer than in the 20th century, while their winter became about a month shorter. Just between 2014 and 2018, it was found that summers were about 50% longer than they normally were. The article continues on by talking about wildfires occurring right after the warmest and driest year ever recorded in Australia. However scientist don't believe that climate change caused the wildfires, they warned about climate changing contributing to more frequent and intense fires to occur in the future.
I believe that Australia's environment could be in real trouble in the near future. Not only are the longer summers frightening, but Australia has one of the worlds largest greenhouse gasses emitted per capita. Also according to the UN, there has been no improvement to Australia's climate policy since 2017 and that the country is projected to be well above the projected target f emission levels for 2030.
