The Coronavirus has just claimed its second victim in the United States. A man in his 70's recently died of the virus in King County, Washington; the man was said to have preexisting medical conditions. As of Sunday, March 1st, there have been 84 reported cases of the Coronavirus in the United States, and 2 deaths. This is the beginning of a much more widespread epidemic in the United States, many scientists believe, and cases are expected to hit the Northeast within the next month.

I believe the Coronavirus is not as big of an epidemic as it is believed to be. The disease itself only really poses a threat to children and senior citizens. The Influenza Virus claims many more victims a year than Coronavirus is proving to infect, and the death rates of Influenza are higher than that of Corona. I believe the Coronavirus is a disease that must be dealt with and we must use whatever resources we can to stop it, but I would not consider the disease to be an epidemic or worthy of mass hysteria.

  1. I agree with you. While the coronavirus may kill people there are a lot more deadly diseases out there. I also think that we should use whatever resources we can to stop it.

  2. I agree that the Coronavirus has been shown on social media and the news as a big threat and a possible new plague, when in reality it is not a big deal. But as the virus spreads and continues to kill infected people it is now considered deadlier than influenza. Do you think that since the virus continues to spread and it has been killing more people we should be more worried, or do you think it is still under control?

  4. I agree that the Coronavirus is sometimes made to seem worse then it really is on social media and the news, but it is still something that everybody needs to be taking precautions to avoid getting and we need to be working towards more treatments. I think that to help prevent the rapid spreading of the virus, the test prices need to be lowered and we should have more travel warnings and restrictions.
