Deforestation: Facts, Causes, and Effects

In the current environment, many people are chopping down more and more trees to make room for housing or industrial areas. They also chop down trees for uses in the consumer goods industry for paper, furniture, and for homes to made. These methods are bad for the land that the methods are being used on because it then effect the quality of the soil for a while. The soil can take in nutrients from the ashes that are being dispersed from the burning of the trees. This can kill off weeds also that are present and no longer make weeds grow in that certain area of land.

I think that this is terrible for the environment because it then effects the areas that had lot of trees and areas that had animals that depended on the trees around then. Animals will soon start to disperse from certain areas and die off because of no resources being available to them and not having somewhere to live at. Deforestation is also claimed to be one of the leading causes to climate change across the globe. Deforestation also releases more carbon dioxide into the air. Soil erosion can lead into silt entering the bodies of water.

    This is something that has been debated for over many years. I think this is a very good topic to bring up as it is not only ruining the environment but also destroying the homes of many animals

    This topic is interesting and important because if we continue on the path of deforestation we are going to run out of trees and lumber to use as resources. We should try to find more sources and ways to cut down on using up our environment and taking animals homes away.

    I read an article about the degradation of the land and deforestation was one of the leading causes of land degradation. As of right not 75% of the Earth's land is degraded which means it can not be used to it's full potential. I think humans need to limit the amount of deforestation that takes place world wide or we are going to be in for a world of trouble in the future.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
