Philippines temporarily closes popular holiday island to tourists due to pollution

To see an article like this is unpleasing. The fact that thousands of people will be losing jobs due to pollution is unbelievable. According to the article; "The island is very much dependent on tourism. Up to 36,000 jobs ranging from hotel workers to street vendors could be lost in the shutdown, with authorities rejecting pleas by locals to consider a partial closure of the island." The pollution is due to dumped sewage. We need to find another solution rather than aimlessly dumping it and effecting the lives of thousands.

  1. I wrote about the same article as you. I agree that the loss of jobs is detrimental and must be stopped. Looking deeper into the situation though, I believe that the individuals who do work there must work harder to stop the tourist pollution and waste from being created. It's their job to prevent what is happening and obviously they're not successful.

  2. It's crazy to see how much environmental pollution can affect the economy, both in good and bad ways. However, in this case, it is obviously a bad way and I think that all countries should take note of what is currently happening in the Philippines. There are a lot of other small countries that rely heavily on tourism, and having a large part of an economy be shut down could have detrimental affects on the overall health of the nation.

  3. It's sad to see the island being destroyed by tourist. Many people wouldn't want litter in their own yards, so why should they want to litter and destroy an island. I think if more people took this into consideration, the world would be in a better shape. Another option is to, after they clean the island up, enforce strict littering laws to prevent this happening again.
