Green-haired turtle that breathes through its genitals added to endangered list

The Mary river turtle was recently added to the endangered list. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's people would go into their nests and then sell them for pets, eventually leading them to become endangered. Humans throughout history haven driven animals to extinction for their own needs, i.e ivory, fur, and pets. Humans should start placing stricter protection on endangered animals to make up for the damage they have done.

  1. This, while disappointing, is also a bit confusing. Is the reason for the green-hair turtle becoming endangered due to the climate or is it still because of people? This only mentions the 60s and 70s which while relevant, were different than we are today. So, what is the main reason they went extinct?

Also, I agree that stricter protection should be placed because humans can really suck sometimes but how is that relevant to this case?

  4. It's unfortunate that most of the animals on the endangered species list are on that lists because of humans as a whole, even though most people don't even know these animals are endangered.
