Environmental Injustice in Puerto Rico

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico leaving this piece of U.S territory in a crisis. Almost half of Puerto Rico is without power, leaving hospitals and other health services unable to stay open with no power source. The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending loads of water in their first shipment to help due to many water systems not in use without power include waste water systems. Along with water and backup generators for the hospitals, the U.S. sent a 1,000 bed hospital ship to assist with medical care. The U.S. is also helping states like Texas and Louisiana affected by the hurricane, but Puerto Rico doesn't think they are being aided sufficiently. Can the United States do more Puerto Rico?

  1. I believe the current situation in Puerto Rico right now is very heartbreaking to see. They are being helped but not up to par in my opinion and many others. Recently, there has been hope as the US has lifted previous laws forbidding outside countries from sailing to Puerto Rico, but now ships can give them the aid they need.

  2. I think what happened in Puerto Rico is devastating. There is so much destruction and the people and the environment are struggling. I think the United States should do everything in their power to help Puerto Rico. It's going to be a long and hard battle to get Puerto Rico back to a good place.

  3. I definitely believe that more can be done for Puerto Rico, and other areas when they are impacted by natural disasters. It was very sad to see what occurred to Puerto Rico and how little we did to help them. I personally feel that we, as individuals and as a country, have a moral responsibility to help out others when they are in need, particularly when natural disasters like this occur.
