E.P.A is allowing cities to dump sewage into rivers
The Environmental Protection Agency has made it easier for cities to dump raw sewage into rivers because cities have complained that it is too expensive to meet federal requirements to upgrade sewer systems. When the cities upgrade their sewage systems many directly release untreated waste into the the waterways and when it heavily rains it causes major problems because climate change worsens when rainstorms intensify. This has gained the attention of the Trump administration who wants to renegotiate the agreement by cutting back 95 environmental rules that they think are too costly for industries and taxpayers. Officials in many cities are pleased with Donald Trump's actions but environmentalists think the changes he is making is threatening people's safety by allowing pathogens and chemicals to be released into rivers and then back into streets during a storm. Becky Hammer the deputy director for federal water policy at the Natural Resources Defense Council says there are other ways for cities to maintain affordability while keeping sewage out of lakes and I agree with her. I believe that this is another example of the Trump administration's agenda to threaten our natural resources and public health and if we don't act soon we will be faced with harmful affects that can't be reversed.

This is awful! I feel as though people should come to their senses when they realize that they are heavily polluting water that will not only affect them but the wildlife and marine life around them. Once they realize that what they are doing is not sensible, it will most likely be too late to reverse the effects. I agree with Beck Hammer as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible. I do not understand how people find it acceptable to dump sewage into rivers, which heavily pollutes the water and hurts the ecosystems by harming the marine life. If the Trump administration cuts all these programs that help the environment, climate change will increasingly get worse. People need to come to the realization that the planet is in terrible shape and we need to fix it. Beck Hammer is right that there are other ways to get stuff done.
ReplyDeletePeople are often times blinded by party or by what they are supposed to believe instead of logical reasoning and what actually makes sense. Businesses do what is convenient and often do not think/care about what happens in the long run. Water pollution and the pollution done in previous decades and now is catching up to us and until we change how we run things, we will bear the consequences.
