Funny Antarctica particles can defy physics (Brogan Coffin)

Since 2016 there has been 3 cases of ultra high energy particles being blasted up from the ground in Antarctica. Most known types of particles are unable to pass through the Earth's crust due to its thickness and ability to ping off of the crust. This implies that there is a new type of of particle is responsible for the pings through the ice. These particles containing high energy are especially strange due to most particles that can pass through the earth are nearly massless. Scientists say that it could be possible that there is an acceleration source in the earth but that it is incredibly unlikely. For the time being our technology is not currently strong enough to detect the true source of these pngs so for now we will have to wait until the next generation of technology.

I think this is wickedly cool, the fact that physics can be flipped on it's head like this is truly amazing. The world as we know it is such a fragile thing and even minor discoveries like this can completely change our view of the world. Discoveries like these are bound to continue to arise and have the potential fo rus to continue to expand our knowledge of the world.

  1. Those funny particles do sure seem cool, but I am unsure if they could have a negative or positive impact on our lives. If there has only been a few instances in the past where the pings were discovered, they're probably just anomalies that hopefully won't affect us in the long run.
