California town bans plastic cutlery, straws to protect environment

The Malibu City Council passed a law to ban plastic cutlery and straws. In a recent movement to ban certain plastic objects, such as plastic bags. Recently more and more countries and states are moving towards imposing bans on such objects. People are moving forward from using plastic objects after realizing the negative effects they can have on the environment.

    I think that its important to start moving away from plastics, and look for other more biodegradable sources of material. Cutlery is something we use everyday so I'm sure theirs a lot of waste from it, from people not recycling it where it belongs, as well as the ocean like in the article. Like the article says, wood could be a great source for a replacement to plastics. What if we could make cutlery out of a hard cardboard, or new type of material?

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
