How will Oregon clean up diesel air pollution?
I was unaware of the air pollution currently occurring in Oregon. According to the article, "400 Oregon residents are estimated to die prematurely every year from exposure to diesel exhaust, a toxic carcinogen and a contributor to climate change." The state of Oregon is planning a one-time inventory of all off-road vehicles, and advocates of stricter diesel regulations. I hope these regulations help the citizens in Oregon.

  1. Interesting article. I was also unaware of the extent of the air pollution in Oregon.

  2. This is especially weird because Oregon is not a highly populated state like New York or California is so there there would be less traffic and air pollution from cars in Oregon than other states in America. I would not expect Oregon out of all states to be the one with such extreme air pollutants that 400 residents die prematurely due to the pollution.

  3. The quality of the air in Oregon and the estimated deaths are very shocking, especially coming from such a sparsely populated state.

  4. This is scary, I think the state of Oregon should ban diesel cars from driving in the state. I think by banning diesel Oregon could decrease the air pollution and help to fix their massive pollution problem. I think they need to do something to stop the amount of air pollution put into the air because of the amount of people that die prematurely due to pollution in the air.

    1. banning diesel trucks and suvs? maybe not. there are less emission tests for diesel engines. In gas engines if the vehicle is old enough, it only has to pass a visual emissions test, in PA at least. We need to rethink the emissions standards for diesel engines. there have been many scandals regarding diesel engines in VW cars produced last year. We need to change how states regulate emissions. We should make a nation wide standard for these tests, not allowing some states to skip these important tests.

    2. I agree that this is a major problem and we need to find a way to stop it. However, banning diesel also has a negative impact because major companies, such as Adidas, have there headquarters there and possibly do lots of shipping through Oregon.
