Florida's Red Tide

        In the wake of all the nasty storms hitting Florida's coastline, has brought something called the Red Tide which has been a constant struggle for the last 9 months.. The storms brought in a ginormous algae bloom that is killing Florida's marine life. It is said that the Red Tide has spread to over 130 miles of Florida's coast and has killed over 2,000 tons of marine life. This is a huge problem for the environment as well as business owners on the beaches.

    Wow. Those statistics are very disheartening. I feel as if some sort of action must be taken soon in order to keep the Red Tide from causing even more destruction.

    This is very upsetting to hear. It is also a unique situation in that this is not a man-made problem killing the marine life, but the environment itself. I would imagine that this also makes it much harder to control and prevent.

Since this was not expected, people are worried that climate change could have many other effects that we are not prepared for. College Shooting

Recently on the  UNC Charlotte campus 2 students were found dead and 4 injured, after shooter. The suspect, a male student, is in custody  now.  Officers are going room by room on campus to identify any students, faculty or others who may be sheltering in place. I think overall it is really scary because a shooting can happen anywhere and we never know when. Urban Coyote Evolution Favors The Bold

linky Summary Coyotes are becoming an increasing risk in urban areas. They are coming into contact with people and pets more and more as time goes on. Researchers decided to find out what is making coyotes so comfortable around humans and how to prevent these interactions. They are led to believe that it begins with the parenting. They believe the fearlessness is passed down from parent to offspring.  They went to a wildlife conservatory in Utah to observe the captive, but mostly wild, coyotes that reside there. When the keepers feed them, they usually made as little contact with the coyotes as possible, to limit the human interaction. However, when they started staying after they fed them, the coyotes became more comfortable with the human presence. After generations, the coyotes had no fear whatsoever towards the humans.
