Bad Genes + Pollution = Deadly Asthma!?!
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/08/180831130117.htm
A study done by a research team from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and Rice University in Houston shows that a combination of genetics and pollution may lead to a more severe effect on asthma patients. Asthma patients living in areas with a lot of traiffic pollution and a change in their genes called a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) have the most severe asthma attacks. However, asthma patients with this SNP that live farther away from busy roads have less severe symptoms. I for one think it’s weird that this study was even done. I also don’t understand how being in a populated area means you have a better chance of dying from asthma. That being said, it’s kinda neat knowing that the environment could make asthma worse.

ReplyDeleteI would guess that higher population correlates to higher pollution which would trigger more asthma attacks.
I found it interesting that a change in genes can cause a more severe type of asthma. I never knew that before.
ReplyDeleteI never knew that people who live in more polluted areas would be more prone to asthma attacks.
