Sea Level Differences

Sea level rises in different areas due to earths gravity, temperature, and the way it spins. The warmer the sea is the more water is produced due to molecules taking up more area. Tectonic plates alter land and make the water level rise when they shift. Earths rotation affects the amount of water in the sea by making the north side of the earth go counterclockwise and the south go clockwise. Water begins to get pushed through currents to one side, so this causes a side to have more sea water than the outside of the current.

It is interesting that sea levels can vary in different areas. I would have thought the entire area would be the same, but really both sides of a current could be different.

ReplyDeleteI never knew that the sea levels were different around the world. It's interesting what causes this like when the water is warmer it takes up more space from the molecules.
DeleteInclude a response/implications... why is it a big deal that sea levels vary? For instance, I immediately wondered if this has skewed data that is used to support climate change arguments.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool but also scary... you could be swimming in a shallow part of the ocean and all of the sudden be swimming in the same depth that sharks swim in. Maybe this has an effect on hurricanes and what category storm they are
