Hope for Climate Change

The recent five-year drought in California has caused over 129 million trees to perish.  Those trees that survived however, are being closely studied for they may bring hope of stopping climate change.  Scientists believe that if the trees could survive the intense heat there would have to be some type of coping mechanism the trees use in severe circumstances.  Scientists have also being experimenting with coral that can withstand high temperatures because the ocean's are warming causing the reefs to perish.  I believe that if we continue to make discoveries like these ones we could prevent climate change from happening.  By experimenting and finding solutions to keep out ecosystem alive, we will be able to keep the Earth from massive destruction.

    I find this to be very interesting. If more trees have this coping mechanism, there will be less devastation to our environment. That would be an incredible relief, especially since places like California experience heavy doubt and even forest fires. Along with the reefs that are slowly disappearing due to the oceans being warmer. It's interesting to know that we have the technology today in order to improve the environment.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
