Trump Administration has planned to scrap the requirements for energy-efficient light bulbs. However, that does not mean that you can't phase out old-style light bulbs in your house. Doing so would lower your electric bill and be good for the environment. Over the past decade there has been a move to more energy-efficient lighting in the US and it has already decreased the demand of electricity in the country. Completing the revolution would bring carbon savings equivalent to taking several million cars off the road. There are about six billion screw in sockets in homes across the United States. Two-three billion of those still have an inefficient incandescent or halogen bulb in them, according to a scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council.

ReplyDeleteWhile using energy saving bulbs can help the environment, they can also do harm since many common energy-saving bulbs contain small amounts of mercury. Mercury in small amounts isn’t going to single handedly destroy the planet, but it can be environmentally damaging if they are carelessly disposes of in landfills.

While using these new light bulbs would cut down on our energy uses it won't do us much good when it comes disposes the old ones, not many people are willing to quickly change to a newer source of energy especially when they're already comfortable with what they're using.
