Drinking water contaminated with chemicals
Drinking water that is served to over 7 million people living in California has been found with chemical contaminants. The Environment Working group has found water sources from 74 community water systems containing PFAS chemicals which can cause increased cholesterol, immune system problems, thyroid problems, and even cancer. PFAS chemcials are perfluoroalky and polyfluoroalkyl substances which are a group of man-made chemicals. The problem is these chemicals don't break down over time they are called "forever chemicals" which means they build up in our environment and bodies. This has made California create laws about PFAS chemicals in public water system and monitor and report if detections are seen. I think more states need to make sure there is no harmful chemicals like PFAS in public water systems because they can seriously harm people and there needs to be laws so we can stop this problem from occurring.

I agree with there being a need of laws to slow the production of this poisonous chemical. It is scary how quickly companies and factories release chemicals like these without thinking of the effects on the general population. Also, maybe a way of filtering the chemicals could be produced in order to slow the release of these chemicals?
ReplyDeleteI agree with laws to stop contaminating water with these chemicals but people are so greedy and would be so mad that someone is trying to halt their business, they would just try to do it more secretly
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. There should definitely be more done around the country to prevent us from consuming contaminated water supplies. We all love to encourage advancements in science, which we should, but we also need to step back and look at just exactly how it affects our environment and the people around us, and weigh out the pros and cons of each of our decisions as we progress towards even more innovations; we need to be able to preserve the planet we live on if we want to keep making these advancements.
