Patagonia Joins Forces with Activists to Protect Public Lands from Trump

Native American groups and outdoor activists promised to improve on their efforts to protect public lands and sanctuaries, since U.S. Interior Secretary Zinke threatened to adjust/ shrink the boundaries of some national monuments. In addition to the advocate's efforts, many people are petitioning against the Trump Administration's threats to shrink the boundaries of many public sites, which includes, but is not limited to, Native American lands. The Washington Post reported that the monuments that may be in danger of shrinking are Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, which are both located in Utah, and Cascade-Siskiyou, located in Oregon. This is such an important issue because national monuments are significant sites of either historical, cultural, or scientific importance managed by the federal government.

Above is a link from an NPR broadcast that interviewed an advocate from Utah to the Native American tribes who will be affected most by the Bears Ears changes.

Interestingly, it reminds me of the other "battle" going on in our country--taking down statues or memorials that may have a controversial history. The argument to keep them usually centers around preserving history... so why can't we preserve the history of the "original" Americans?
    (Food for thought).
