Becoming Greta: ‘Invisible Girl’ to Global Climate Activist, With Bumps Along the Way

Article

Greta Thunberg is a 16-year old Swedish girl who has recently become a very famous climate change activist. When Greta was younger, she experienced severe depression. She was always and invisible girl who felt isolated and didn't talk much. However, she has begun voicing her opinions on the urgent need for action to prevent climate change. While Greta is not used to the spotlight, she says that she enjoys being heard by others. I think Greta is a great example for our generation. Greta is extremely brave a is not afraid to voice her opinions. If my generation all follows in Greta's footsteps, governments across the globe will have no choice but to hear our voices and try to solve the issue of climate change.

  1. I think this is an inspiring article and how cool it is that a little 16 girl spoke her voice at such a young age.

  2. I think, although awareness needs to be raised about the issues of climate change, we shouldn't have people at such young ages having such an influential say in our politics. At her age, her opinions are most likely fed by parents or mentors giving her a very basic and undeveloped view of the world. Furthermore, there is a reason that the voting age is 18, to ensure that each person develops their own view. On a side note, she has a long history of depression, anxiety, a form of muteness and Asperger's disease. Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming her or faulting her for these things, because it is a big problem around the world, but, a person with such severe mental illness should not be allowed to decide policy on the nations of the world.
