Below zero temperature lead to multiple deaths

The cold weather that we have endured over the past couple of days has be brutal, but also has been very deadly. One case was a 18 year old in Chicago, he attends the University if Iowa. Classes had been canceled due to the temperature drop and he was found unconscious outside a campus building, a short walk from his dorm, he died later at a hospital. He was only one of at least 21 people who died and the government believe it to be related to the bitter weather system, the freezing conditions have sent many people to hospitals with symptoms of hypothermia or frostbite, and business, schools and colleges have been closed. I believe it to be quite scary that these below zero temperature could be so deadly. Next time we are advised us to stay inside, we should take it.

  1. This is alarming because people will not be able to carry out their everyday functions if the weather continues to be this cold. It might be nice to have a day off of school or work now, but the economy will take a hit in the long run as jobs are not being done.

  2. This is very concerning not just for our every day lives, but also because we do not know why the temperatures are getting so extreme. If this goes on, resources can become depleted and environments may not be able to sustain the cold, leading to loss of many species.

  3. A lot of people scoff at schools for closing or having delays on days when temperatures are frigid. Clearly keeping people out of the cold is important and if it's not done there can be consequences, apparently, life threatening ones.

  4. This is very scary. I think it is important that we not only take precautions to stay safe from the extreme temperatures, but work hard to solve climate change to prevent this issue from getting worse.

  5. This is definitely a dangerous situation for individuals going about their everyday lives. Hopefully conditions don't get any worse as time goes on because then businesses, schools, etc. will start suffering due to having so many days off to be safe from the freezing temperatures.
