First Mammal Goes Extinct Due to Climate Change

As of June 2016, scientists are led to believe a small rodent that lived in Australia, the Bramble Cay melomys, are the first mammal to go extinct as a result of global climate change. The island where they had been living since the 1700s have shrunk from 9.8 acres to 6.2 acres, which means that the Bramble Cay melomys lost approximately 97% of their habitat. Sea levels have risen eight inches from 1901 to 2010 that puts animals relying on island habitats at a great risk for extinction.
I think this extinction serves as validation of the detrimental effects that climate change is having on the planet. If sea levels continue rising, extinctions such as this will occur at faster rates and deplete biodiversity greatly.

This is very alarming, because if this extinction of mammals continues it will have affects on us far greater than anything we have seen before.
