Dark Matter

Dark matter is believed to made up of non-baryon material. Dark matter consists of particles that do not absorb, reflect or emit light. Dark matter is a material that cannot be seen directly. Dark matter exists and scientists know it exist because of the effect it has on objects that we can observe directly. Understanding dark matter is important in the process of understanding the size, shape and future of the universe. The amount of dark matter in the universe will determine if the universe is open, closed, or flat. As a galaxy spins it should be torn apart but gravity is what holds it together. Scientists believe that dark matter is what may be helping gravity hold the galaxy together and not spin out of space.
