New eDNA technology used to quickly assess coral reefs

Link:

A way to distinguish the living coral in coral reefs has been developed by scientists by analyzing DNA in small samples of seawater. The technique that they use uses the DNA that is constantly shed into the environment from organisms and they leave genetic residue that can be detected and analyzed using molecular biology tools.  I think this scientific development is really cool and allows us to use natural made genetics to help get a better understanding of different species of organisms.
