The Family That Feels Almost No Pain

An Italian family has a special gene mutation known as zfhx2 which allows them to feel little to no pain. Scientists have been studying the family in attempt to help figure out how to reduce pain through gene therapy and medicines used to block out pain signals. This article was quite interesting. It opens up a world of possibility for scientists to discover ways to treat all kinds of pain. Although results may not come too quickly I still feel that this will differently help pave the way for new pain medicines. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/family-feels-almost-no-pain-180971915/

  1. This is very interesting. I would like to see where this leads, whether this will cause them to discover other genes to make humans almost seem robotic.

  2. First off, the name of the mutation looks like the redeem code on the back of a gift card or a google classroom code... I would love to feel no pain, but the cons of that would be scary to think about

  3. Being able to feel no pain would be scary because you could lose like a finger and not even notice that its gone.

  4. This could be a big step for medicine because they could create something to take pain away from patients.
