Solar Powered Purified Water

Scientists have invented a solar panel raft that is meant to float in the ocean and purify the water as it conducts electricity from the sun. The sun evaporates the water and puts it through a porous polystyrene membrane that filters out salt and other contaminants. I think this is a good invention but it could be better considering the questions at the end of the article.

    This invention could really make a huge difference in poor areas in the world. If scientists come up with a way to produce this product in a cheap way, it could help solve the drinking water problems in poorer countries.

    This invention could be revolutionary as it can help purify the water in larger sums than smaller traditional filters. The fact that the raft is solar panel means that it is a much more environmentally friendly way to purify the water and not contribute to the pollution.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
