Air Pollution Linked to Autism

In a study in Shanghai, for newborns to toddlers of three years, exposure to fine particles such as PM2.5 which comes from vehicle exhaust to industrial emissions and many more showed that it had increased the risk of developing ASD (autism spectrum disorder) by 78%. In this study there were 124 children with ASD and 1240 healthy children which were the control. Professor Guo stated that the causes of autism are still complex and not yet fully understood.

Air Pollution is said to be the cause of 4.2 million deaths globally every year. Many outdoor pollutants have contributed to the number of pre-mature deaths.

  4. Now that we know this and we have this information we should act on it and start coming up with solutions to the problem. Solutions that would be more full proof than just using a mask to prevent directly breathing in polluted air.
