Plastic-Eating Bacteria

Scientists at London's Kew Botanical Gardens reported that there are organisms that break down and eat plastic particles. These scientists believe that there might be as many as 3.8 million fungal species that eat plastic, as only 144,000 are named. Scientists are now trying to learn on how to control this and try and stop the plastic pollution as soon as they can.

I think this is super cool because it means that we can breed these and naturally break down plastic witch will obviously have a major, positive impact on our oceans.

  1. Bacteria eating plastic would positively impact the oceans but if they get onto land in large groups they could eat away at important things.
