Why Does California Have So Many Wildfires?

California is prone to wildfires for a wide variety of reasons, but recently many of those factors have been combining and causing the conditions to worsen. Due to a lack of rain and high temperatures in the summer, the vegetation spread throughout California tends to dry out and serve as easy kindling for fire. In addition, California has experienced a 2-3 degree temperature increase overall due to global warming. As a result of these two things, nine of the ten largest wildfires since the 1930s occurred after 2000. I think that Californian wildfires will not only continuing impacting people now, but worsen as the globe temperatures rise.

  1. This article is very informative, as wildfires have been occurring in California a lot recently. Also, it is important to note that there are factors that have led to the creation of these wildfires. Although some of these factors can be man-made or just natural, there are certainly things that can be changed in order to reduce the occurrence of wildfires. One of these ways are environmental changes that will decrease global warming.

  2. This is very interesting because of the fact that Californian wildfires are and aren't cause from human interaction. It is sad to see that the people affected by the wildfires can't do much to stop it because of the air being so dry with very little moisture. However, it makes complete sense that global warming is one of the causes of these fires happening so perhaps limiting the amounts of pollution in the air might help these outbreaks become nonexistent.

  3. The impact with the fires could cause people to move out of California. And if people are moving out they could possibly move into other cities that are having their own problems.

  5. Yet another affect of human-caused climate change, increased wildfires. Being the only factor we have any control over, it should really be a top priority to minimize the damages caused by climate change.

  6. Its very strange to see that the other side of the country is having drought like conditions and the east coast is getting tons and tons of rain

  8. This is a big issue because so many people are forced to move and they are forced to leave everything behind. Wildfires are dangerous and they are very hard to overcome/ deal with when you are dealing with the environment.
