Global Warming

In recent reports, the threats from climate change have been coming fast and furiously. The latest report from "A startling analysis from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change" predicts terrible food shortages, wildfires and a massive die-off of coral reefs as soon as 2040. If climate change reaches 2 degrees the Arctic sea ice is 10 times more likely to disappear over the summer, along with most of the world’s coral reefs. As much as 37 percent of the world’s population will become exposed to extreme heat waves, with an estimated 411 million people subject to severe urban drought and 80 million people to flooding from rising sea levels. If we can hold the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius, Arctic sea ice are far likelier to survive the summers and coral reefs will continue to be damaged, but will not be wiped out. Also the overall of people exposed to severe heat waves would drop to about 14 percent and the number of exposed people to urban drought would drop by more than 60 million people. I think this is a very concerning topic and we need to start doing something about it.

  1. It was shocking to read that just by changing the climate by two degrees, that the ocean has a ten times more likely chance that the arctic ice will melt.

  2. It’s really scary that if the climate changes by 2 degrees, it could effect so much, ranging from heat waves to drought to coral reefs being destroyed.
