Vanished Lakes in Antarctica

-ARTICLE-

For a long period of time, scientists and researchers believed that there was a group of large lakes deep below a glacier in East Antarctica. How else could they explain the movements of the ice? It rises and falls in cycles and is moving in sweeping motions towards the sea, likely caused by water somewhere beneath the surface. However, in a new study, there is no evidence of those large bodies of water beneath the surface. This information is important so that scientists can determine how this area will react to climate change. The lack of lakes and water has surprised many, and the search for a reason why the ice behaves this way has begun. Researchers are going to detonate explosives to create seismic waves, in order to truly determine the structures of ice and whether or not there is water beneath the surface.
