Tortoise evolution: How did they become so big?

Large tortoises have been found all around the world and were originally thought to have come from islands, but recent studies have shown that that might be true. Due to the lack or predatory animals they are able to grow as large as they want with out any limitations to there size. The giants didn't exactly evolve on islands, they traveled to the islands and evolved more since there was an abundance of food and no humans or predatory animals to limit there growth.

I believe that this helps us to see what would happen if there was a species that had no predatory animals or if there was a species that went extinct and all the animals it ate became overpopulated. his In full retro-spect, it shows us how a food chain works and how it becomes extremely useful.

  1. This is very interesting and shows that if some animals had less predators it could cause overpopulation. It could also impact the environment because they could impact the environment they are living in.

  2. This is interesting, this shows what species could possible do without restrictions or predators. With out food chains, herbivores could do what every they want. Very interesting, how big they have grow because of no predator.

  3. So this means that tortoises never stop growing?? That's quite amazing and what if all species were that way? Without predators or illnesses, these tortoises would continue growing bigger and bigger.
