Mexico Earthquakes


The article I read had to do with all the earthquakes hitting Mexico and if they're related. While some believe that all the recent natural disasters could be connected, geophysicists say otherwise. What most people don't understand is underneath Mexico are tectonic plate lines. When the plates move they rub against each other creating the earthquakes. From time to time the plates move more than other times, this is one of them. Because Mexico has three plates under it, when one moves multiple earthquakes will follow since all move. So in conclusion the earthquakes striking Mexico are not connected, but rather would have happened eventually.

    I enjoyed reading this article..I think people always jump to assume that things of this catastrophe are related, but in reality they are due to the plate movements. However, something to think about would be maybe they happened so close together because something triggered plate movements.

    I liked reading this article. I agree with Jenna when she said how people always jump to assume that things of this catastrophe are related. I think this article connects great with what we just learned in class. It was unique to read this while we learn the same information.

    I enjoyed reading this article. I agree that people try to over connect major events and the reasons behind why the events occurred are not talked about. I think it is possibly beneficial that these events occurred when they did because they are over and done with presumably for a while which gives Mexico time to rebuild which it needed anyway.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
