Farmers' efforts to help environment benefit their Lancaster County farms


I thought this article was perfect for this month because we just did our soil lab. This article talks about a local farmer who is doing everything in his power to protect the environment. Everything from, the soil, to the water in the Chesapeake Bay, to the deer in our back yards. He has planted many trees along side of streams to provide homes for deer all over the county. I think more farmers should be environmentally aware and try this farmers technique to better the environment.

    Very interesting the different lengths farmers are going to protect their animals, crops and better the environment.

    I thought it was very cool that this farmer is really trying to help the environment and advocate change in relation to how we treat our environment and the biotic elements that live there.

    Its nice to see that ordinary people are using their power to help the environment. It's also interesting that more farmers don't follow in this farmers foot steps because not only does it help the environment but it also helps him produce more and keep his cows healthy. Hopefully that more people are seeing this more ordinary people will do the same as him.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
