New bio material that replaces plastics

New Bio Material
 There is a new Bio Material that could help global warming and pollution. This material is a polysaccharide polyelectrolyte complex that is composed of cellulose and chitin. The Cellulose is  extracted out of trees and cotton and the chitin is extracted out of the shells of lobster crab and shrimp. This material could replace plastics in may areas. The major one is getting rid of the packaging plastics and exchanging it to a bio degratible material. There is over 300 million ton of plastic material produced a year. Over 29 million ton of material becomes solid waste. Also 10 percent of it is estimated to become ocean debris. This material could help cut the pollution and liter cut down.

    I think we should be pushing for the switch of plastics so that we can start cleaning up the ocean.

    I think this is a great idea to start and save ocean creatures lives by keeping them safe away from the large amounts of plastic that end up in their habitat.

    I full hardheartedly agree that the long term effects of plastics far out worse the benefits of the short term. However, its very unreasonable to just get rid of plastic as so many would wish. To get rid of every plastic wrapping and case for every DVD. To change the packaging for every pack of Oreos. It would be far cost effective to find a way to make plastics break down easier the slowly make the switch to this non plastic solution.

Acid Zone in Chesapeake Bay Found

     According to the University of Delaware, the Chesapeake Bay is becoming acidic as it has gone to 7.4 pH from an average of 8.2. The oxidation of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide may be the factor that is leading to the higher acidity levels in coastal oceans, but it can eventually lead to more of open oceans. Naturally the waters of the Chesapeake Bay have a regulatory system that holds back the increase of acidity levels in the area, and this works as the dissolving of living shells, non-living aragonite, and calcite minerals.
